During March each year we emphasize Calvary Christian School in some very special ways at Calvary Baptist Church. In keeping with that emphasis, in a couple of blogs this month I would like to share with you a few words about Christian education.
The first word is TRUTH! The apostle John said, “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. (Jn 8:32)
In the church we work hard to lay a solid foundation of TRUTH in the hearts of children & teens because TRUTH does some AMAZING things for them. For example:
  • TRUTH has the power to give children ETERNAL LIFE! Truth is so powerful that it actually means the difference between HEAVEN and HELL!
  • TRUTH has the power to set children FREE! Truth is so powerful that it can set them FREE from Satan’s domination and from their own sinful flesh!
But what about school? Consider this - if a child is taught the TRUTH for 17,640 hours in school from kindergarten thru 12th grade, that TRUTH can save him from the eternal bondage of hell and from all kinds of bondage in this life.
But, what do you suppose happens when a child receives those same number of hours of instruction teaching him that God’s truth is a LIE and man’s ways, apart from God, are truth?
God gives this clear command: “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” (Pro. 19:27) God commands us to STOP exposing ourselves to instruction that has the power to cause us to reject truth and embrace error. But children can only obey this command if their parents choose a school that teaches the truth and shields them from error.
If year after year parents allow humanism to be planted in the minds of their children, it should come as no surprise when their adult children “do that which is right in their own eyes”. God is right! We really do reap what we sow! (Gal. 6:7)
Christian school children learn the truth in every subject every day, and they learn to identify and reject error.
Moms and dads of Calvary, please ask God for wisdom regarding school for next year. Ask God to give you courage, conviction, and the willingness to make the necessary sacrifices so that your child can be in a school that teaches the TRUTH. Please protect your children from an education that can cause your children to reject the truth.
Special Offer: Any church family new to CCS can register during March for next year and receive an entire month of free tuition for each child (K4-12th grade).

If you have any questions about Calvary Christian School please visit the school display in the church foyer (pick up a free info packet), or call the school office at 336-983-3743 and ask to speak to Mr. Main.

This Wednesday, we will be taking up our Others' Offering. Every year we are privileged to be able to receive this offering and help those in our church family who have a need. With this offering we are able to help widows, single mothers, and other families in our church who have a need during the Christmas season. We do this for several reasons.

     1.  We Care About One Another

Acts 2:44-45 says, "And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need."

Here we find an infant church and many young believers. As we examine the passage, we find that even though many of these believers were new Christians, they had a special bond with one another. In fact, their bond was so strong that they sold their own possessions and gave to others in need.

     2.  Because We Care, We Act

In James 2, believers are challenged to show their faith through their works!

"If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

Because we are concerned about one another, we help. In other words, we back up our concerns with our actions. Please pray about what God would have you give to be a blessing to others in our Calvary family.

Tonight, it was very exciting to see our teens go into the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission and really make a difference! As soon as we arrived, they jumped right into action! Our girls began pouring drinks and getting desserts ready as our guys went out and made sure the men in the mission had everything they needed. The residents then went through the lines and were served a great meal by our teens.

After the meal, our youth choir sang several songs before the preaching in services on two parts of the campus. At the end of the night a man came forward and accepted Christ as his Savior!

William Booth said, "You cannot warm the hearts of people with God's love if they have an empty stomach..." If our teens had not lovingly served a meal and joyfully sang in the choir, this man may have never heard the Gospel and accepted Christ as his Savior!

Parents, as hard as it may be to believe at times, your teen can make a difference! That son who won't make his bed or daughter who never seems to put her cell phone down is quickly reaching adulthood and can serve God in a great way. It is important to cultivate a passion to make a difference within their heart.

Our goal, as a church, is to assist you in training your teen to Honor God, Build Lives, and Reach Others! Tonight, I believe our teens did just that!
